A new California law allows employees to take paid time off for up to 30 days to donate an organ and up to five days to donate bone marrow. The Michelle Maykin Memorial Donation Protection Act took effect January 1, 2011 and is codified at California Labor Code § 1508, et seq.  So the next time your employee says they’d give their right arm for a month off with pay, tell them that they just need to find someone to donate it to.
