As explained by Sahara Pynes back on February 9th, California has mandated a new bucket of Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL) for employees (of businesses with over 26 employees) to use through September 30, 2022. The two new buckets (each of 40 hours) must be made available as of February 19th, and paystubs must reflect CA Supp Sick: O on the very next paystub. As hours are used, the number goes up.
If you aren’t up to date on the requirements, including how to reclassify prior Covid-19 leave taken in 2022, revisit Sahara’s blog here.

Yes, this is crazy-making in its hasty requirements for employers, but please don’t ignore it. Unless you want to be a target of the Plaintiffs’ bar that is!
